The Sparks series has 4 books in it and they should be read in order. The novella Sky Riders: Origins contains 3 prequel stories. While it can be read before reading the Sparks series I would recommend reading it after.
The Old Town Trilogy has 3 books in it (book 3 is due for publication in early 2026) and they should be read in order. The novella Red Smoke is a prequel and while it can be read any time I would recommend reading it after Swirls of Magic (book 1).
The Sparks series is YA fantasy and is suitable for readers from age 13+. There is a lesbian love story in the series which is sweet, not spicy. As the series is epic dragon rider fantasy it also includes battle scenes but these are not gory.
The Old Town Trilogy is YA fantasy and is suitable for readers from age 16+. It’s an urban fantasy with dark magic and monsters (think Stranger Things level of monsters). And it includes magical substance abuse and some gory scenes. There’s no spice.
Both my Sparks series and the Old Town Trilogy are full of inspirational female characters.
The Sparks series has an almost exclusively female cast and the main character is Aimee Wood. She’s been an outcast her whole life and is desperate for somewhere to belong. She’s shy but fierce and determined.
The Old Town Trilogy centres around Isla Campbell and her family, who she’d do anything for, even if it’s illegal. She’s bold and ballsy, definitely a troublemaker, but her heart’s in the right place.
